FAQ

How bright are your Palm Tree Lights?

We offer 2 versions of the Magic Garden Palm Tree Light.  Our standard version (PTL4-16) contains 4 CREE-type LED diodes that produces a light beam of over 1300 LM (lumens), more than enough for most tall palm trees. There is no comparison to your normal little garden lights of yor, these, have a bright white beam that will bathe the top of the tree in illumination.

We also offer an high powered version (PTL6-24) containing 6 CREE-type LED's producing almost 2,000 LM (lumens) easily reaching the top of trees 75 ft high! These light are for really tall trees. You've got tall palms, these are for you. Also suitable for Hotels, Resorts and Commercial establishments.

Both versions are very economical to run, yet both versions of these lights a very powerful. Because they are to be used outdoors, they are waterproof rated to IP67 standard.

Can I install these myself?

Yes, following our instructions, most people will find this very easy to do. The installation is very simple with a couple of very basic hand tools, and a ladder (to reach 6-8 feet up the tree trunk). You'll need a screwdriver (or 5/8 nut-driver) to tighten the collar clamp around the tree, we'll include a hex key (aka allen wrench) for adjusting the light beam and tightening the light mounting bracket.

We'll even include a connector/junction box, so that you can connect our 12' pre-installed cable, to your existing 12-volt DC garden lighting system. It's a simple two-wire connection. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver to close the junction box once you've connected it to your low voltage system cable. That's it, simple.

Even though these lights operate at low voltage (12-volt DC) and can be installed in minutes, some people may still prefer to hire an electrician, their gardener, or handyman for the installation.

Can I install more than one light per tree?

Sure, you may want to install one light shining up and one down onto the ground. The Stainless Steel Trunk Collar has pre-punched holes every inch allowing you to place lights anywhere around the circumference of the tree. We have one client with huge and very tall date palm trees that installed two high power lights pointing up, and one standard light pointing down on each tree to light the long drive towards their home. It's stunning at night!

They also install our Red and Green color filters during the holidays - very festive.

What is the warranty on your Palm Tree Lights?

We bench-test every single unit before we ship them out.  While these CREE-type LED diodes are designed to last 40,000 + hours, and we have yet to have one fail, something could go wrong with one.

Therefore we offer a full year replacement warranty on our Magic Garden Palm Tree Lights. If it fails, send it back to us with your purchase receipt, and we'll test it. If found to be defective because of materials or workmanship, we'll simply send you a new one, it is as simple as that.

Remember though, these are low voltage lights (max 24 volts DC ), so they will NOT work if plugged directly into your standard household 110V outlet, nor will we warranty them if they have been!

They must only be powered by a 9-24 volt DC power source. Some more sophisticated 12 volt DC garden light transformers, will have what is called "multi-tap" (more than one connection) that produces up to 15 volts, to allow for longer cable runs, that's fine with our Palm Tree lights as they can handle 24 volts if needed. If you are running several hundred feet of cable, go with a larger 300-600 watt transformer with multi-tap outlets for the best light output.

How long will the shipping take?

Our Palm Tree Light Kits are essentially made to order. While the electronics are pre-assembled, we do cut and assemble the collar clamps based on the measurements indicated in each order. Typically this is done in a day or two, then the order is packed, and shipped out. So, 2-3 days, and they're on their way. We typically ship by Priority Mail package to get you shipment to you quickly!

What size are your Palm Tree Lights?

Our lights are very small and sleek in size. The aluminum housing measure just over 3 inches, making them very unobtrusive when installed. Offered in Desert Tan, and in Dark Brown color, helps them blend with the tree trunk.

What if I don't have an existing garden light system, how do I power the Palm Tree Lights?

If you already have a low voltage system installed, you can simply connect our Palm Tree Lights to it, and you're set!

The lights are designed to be powered by a typical 12-volt (low voltage) garden light set-up (like Malibu, Portfolio, Intermatic, or all those typically sold at home improvement stores). These types of lights are all powered by a transformer plugged into a grounded outlet, that then sends low voltage power through a cable that have lights hooked up to it and placed around your garden. To protect the cable from lawn movers and trimmer, the cable is best buried a couple of inches below ground.

If you do not yet have a low voltage garden lighting system, you will need a transformer and cable. We offer a very economical 120 Watt  transformer (PTL120) that features a built-in timer, as well as a photo-cell, to make sure that your lights are on when you want them to be, without wasting electricity when they are not needed. In fact, it is the very same model transformer that we use. While you can set it to go on when the sun goes down, and off when it comes up, we have ours set to run 5 hour every night using the built-in timer.

Keep in mind, that there are different sizes of transformers (typically ranging from 60 watts to 600 watts) the primary difference is how many lights a transformer handle. The higher the transformer output wattage, the more lights is can handle. Then again, the more electricity it will use, so be energy smart.

Each Magic Garden Palm Tree Light has 4-6 LED elements (depending on model) using only 16-24 Watts of power. So, even our little 120 watt transformer can easily power 5-7 Magic Garden Palm Tree Lights.
